My First Swiggy Order Experience: A Journey of Excitement and Learning
Starting a food business on Swiggy is an exciting journey, but the real thrill begins when you receive your first order. After nearly three weeks of patience, I finally received mine! Here’s my experience, from waiting for the first order to handling unexpected challenges.
How Long Did It Take to Get My First Swiggy Order?
I specialize in freshly baked cakes and cupcakes, a niche that requires trust and word-of-mouth marketing. In the initial weeks, I encouraged friends to place orders to understand how the platform worked. However, I eagerly awaited my first order from an unknown customer.
It took almost three weeks to receive my first organic order. During this time, I focused on promoting my business through Instagram and WhatsApp by sharing reels, photos, and videos. I did not invest in additional marketing, which may have influenced the timeline.
The time it takes to get your first Swiggy order varies based on product demand, marketing efforts, location, and competition. Some may receive orders within days, while others may take longer.
What Was My First Order?
On the day of my first order, my menu featured six cupcake flavors:
- Rasmalai
- Blueberry Cream Cheese
- Choco Truffle
- Coffee Caramel
- KitKat Cupcake
- Mango Cupcake
The customer was particularly excited to try my Mango Cupcake, so they placed an order for an assorted cupcake box with four different flavors.
How Much Did the Assorted Cupcakes Cost?
The base price for the assorted cupcakes was ₹399. After adding taxes and delivery charges, the total came to approximately ₹418.
The delivery charge and final price depend on factors like customer location, delivery distance, and platform fees. In this case, the customer was located within 5 km of my store.
How Much Time Did I Have to Prepare the Order?
Once an order is placed, the Swiggy Partner App alerts you with a notification. You must accept the order within a few minutes. If you miss it, Swiggy or Zomato may call to remind you.
After acceptance, I had 5 minutes to prepare the order before marking it as “Ready for Pickup.” Swiggy allows up to 10 minutes for preparation if additional time is needed.
The app also provides real-time tracking of the delivery partner’s estimated arrival time and rider details such as name, contact number, and location.
Why Did I Have to Cancel My First Order?
Here’s where things took an unexpected turn! One of my friends had pre-informed me about an order and was supposed to place it through Swiggy. Shortly after, I received a Swiggy notification and assumed it was my friend’s order. Without checking the customer's name, I began preparing it.
Minutes later, my friend messaged saying they would place the order in 5 minutes. That’s when I realized that the order I was preparing was from a new customer!
By then, the Swiggy delivery partner was already in route, and my actual order hadn’t even been started. Panic set in—I had no idea how to cancel the order, and I couldn’t immediately contact Swiggy Support.
How Did I Resolve the Issue?
As the Swiggy rider arrived, I explained the situation and asked if he could cancel the order. Unfortunately, delivery partners cannot cancel orders. However, he kindly suggested that I contact Swiggy Support or the customer directly.
Realizing I could call the customer through the app, I explained the issue and requested 10-15 extra minutes to prepare the order. The customer was incredibly understanding and agreed to cancel and reorder later. I even offered to cover the cancellation charges, but they declined. Within 10 minutes, they placed a new order.
Shortly after, Swiggy Support called me to verify the issue and processed the cancellation smoothly.
Final Thoughts on My First Swiggy Order Experience
Despite the unexpected challenge, this experience turned out to be a valuable learning opportunity. I was fortunate to interact with a kind delivery partner and an understanding customer, making my first order experience both exciting and heartwarming.
The baking business is not just about preparing delicious treats—it’s also about handling logistics, customer communication, and problem-solving. When I finally saw my first Swiggy order completed, the joy was beyond words! 🤍
